Well summer almost seems like its coming to an end. It does for me at least. Recently getting a full time job as a web developer means I'm not at the beach as much and not out skimboarding as much. But what it does mean, is I'm learning more and more about website development. I can create more complicated and interactive websites that feature more social networking stuff! So what does THIS mean? Guess...

I am seriously planning the biggest makeover that nzskim has ever had! There's been small talk about it for a wee while here and there, if you paid attention to the NZSKIM forums, but now I thought I'd let all the nzskim forum followers have something to look forward to.

So what kind of makeover? What do I wanna change about it? Loads. Here's a list of stuff that I want done for 2010/2011. Some may be done, some might be out of reach.

1 - Interactive, updateable and rateable skimspot sharer, incorporating Google Maps OR Google Earth... People will be able to pin locations on New Zealand's map, write stuff about it, give it their own rating and watch others comment and rate them. The skimspots will be filterable for waveriding and flatland and then filter through the definately-good beaches, maybe-goods and the looks-good-from-google-maps. (What I mean by that is, when you look on google maps, there are features that you can see via satellite images that make the beach look pretty good).
So what will be so great about this? You no longer have to wonder where the nearest skimspot is near you... and you can share your treasured findings to boost the new zealand skim community. Oh and did I mention built in directions... Just find a skimspot you want to go to, type in your address and it will work out the road directions to get there!! sweeeeeet.

* Gasping for air *

2 - Easily updateable news and events section - so easy, that people that think they'd be good at writing up reports can nominate themselves, or be nominated to write for nzskim as well! It would be good if people like OXS team, Central Skim team and Ballistics etc could write up stuff, but thats up to them. It would be good, free advertising for them anyway...

3 - I hope to redo the nzskim forum. Completely developed by me. No more logging-in issues!!! Maybe not as many features unfortunately (as forums are VERY BIG websites to make), but there hopefully wont be so many issues!! Oh and I also hope to make it in such a way, that I dont lose all the user accounts and forum topics/messages!

4 - (possibly) Chat integration - a lot like facebooks. So you can add friends from the forum, and chat to them whenever you see them online.

5 - A better photo/video gallery!!!! This has got to be one of the worst pages on nzskim so far.. It never gets updated, and people can't upload their own stuff!!! so I hope to revamp this one nicely!

And last but not least...
6 - A nzskim shop. This is entirely conceptual at the moment. Not sure if I have the money or time to code this one and buy the gear to sell.. But I would like to sell OXS and Central skimboards on nzskim (dunno if it wud be commision or whateve... to be honest havent even talked to them properly about it)... but I would like to start selling nzskim merchandise to pay for the costs of nzskim and to go towards hosting waveriding and possibly flatland events. I don't really wanna keep the nzskim money that I would make (except for perhaps selling boards) but all nzskim merchandise, I would like to go towards boosting the new zealand skimboarding scene.

anyway thats enough work for me to do. There's something to look forward to, and ill be designating and devoting a whole years worth of spare time to. It's my non-financial support to new zealand skimboarding. If I cant afford to do it, then I may as well find other ways to support it!

sh*t thats a lot of stuff to read. sorry. haha

That google maps thing is friken brilliant if you ask me. That's a massive boost for skimming here alone.

Some funding for nz skim is needed to kick the merchandise off, I'll throw nz skim stickers on the boards if you get some!

We like all the plans, and will give our full support. Media wise and Financially.

As far as a competition is going, we are looking into organise a shore style type competition. Either on the Shore or on the West coast.
We are also looking into a wave riding competition, but a serious beach is needed, near a central city or area.

Cheers Central Skimboards! You'll be sure to hear from Nzskim about some deals. All help that can be given towards uploading media, staying up to date and everything financial will be much appreciated! If you know any surf shops or brands that wanna advertise or support nzskim, then give us a yell ae.

Well the forum will have to incorporate the new design that I'll be doing, so yeah I may as well... There's already a chat thing on the forum at the moment, but no one uses it hahaha.. so the chat function on the new website is really just to test my skills ae.

good idea, you should nominate someone from every scene to mderate this, and same with the easily up dateable news section, BUT NOT BALLISTICS THERE WACK!

and have a blog for the nws section not a twitter. also give oxs a blog and get rid of the current news section because its small things like that that make brands more legit and succesfull and i want to see oxs get money get money, because they are doing sh*t for scene right now, annd this site, but nobody else is.
